As a result, certain provisions of the following policy or administrative regulation that reflect those requirements may be suspended.</div>\n\n<p>The Board of Education recognizes that high-quality supplemental instructional programs can motivate and support students to attain grade-level academic standards, overcome academic deficiencies, and/or acquire critical skills.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Required Supplemental Programs</strong></p>\n\n<p>The district shall offer direct, systematic, and intensive supplemental instruction for:</p>\n\n<ol>\n\t<li>Students in grades 2-8 who have been retained or recommended for retention, summer school, after school/before school intervention, and intersession, pursuant to Education Code <span>48070.5</span> (Education Code <span>37252.2</span>)<br>\n\t&nbsp;</li>\n\t<li>Students in grades 7-8 who do not demonstrate &quot;sufficient progress&quot; toward passing the state exit examination required for high school graduation in order to help them pass the exam (Education Code <span>37252</span>, <span>60851</span>)<br>\n\t<br>\n\t&quot;Sufficient progress&quot; shall be determined based on a student&#39;s results on the state Standardized Testing and Reporting assessments and the minimum levels of proficiency recommended by the State Board of Education.<br>\n\t<br>\n\tIn addition, students who do not possess sufficient English language skills to be assessed shall be considered students who do not demonstrate sufficient progress towards passing the exit exam and shall receive supplemental instruction designed to help them succeed on the exit exam.
